The winners of the 16th Targa Bonetto putting forward ideas and projects for technological innovation and infrastructures such as the concept for the restyling of the port of Viareggio. Prize-giving ceremony at Seatec.

The prestigious Targa Rodolfo Bonetto, started by Marco Bonetto in 1991 in memory of his father Rodolfo, one of the great masters of Italian design, the Exhibition of technology, subcontracting and design for boats, mega yachts and ships, has been held since 2008 at Seatec. Open to students at schools or universities of Design and Architecture all over the world,   including young graduates who have written their thesis on a related subject, the competition is divided into two sections: Technological Innovation and Infrastructures.
The competition, announced by Seatec and Design Center, was also open to young graduates who could enter projects in two separate categories: Technological Innovation and Infrastructures.
There were numerous entrants in the 2010 Targa Bonetto and the jury (composed of university professors, designers and journalists) assessed both the formal aspects and the motivations indicated by the designers with a view to identifying the design trends, innovative content compared to the current market level in the area of reference as well as the compositional aspects of the external layout, the interior design and the technological-productive innovation.
In addition to Marco Bonetto, the Jury examining the projects was composed of Roberto Franzoni, SanLorenzo Marketing and Communications Manager, Decio G. R. Carugati, journalist and design critic, Luciano Pagani, designer, Roberto Giolito, style director for Fiat and Tommaso Spadolini, architect and yacht designer.
In the Technological Innovation category, on the theme of "Medium-sized Boats (maximum size of sailing boats 55', motor boats 50'), open or livable. The design and study of the most suitable shape for the use of technology for low cost production, for the possibility of developing a serial production" the winners were:
1st Prize, project MASTER 10 by Knapic Valdi, Krasnac Jure, University of Trieste,  Master in Yacht Style and Design with the following motivation: For the innovative design in the 10-metre category, a technologically advanced project with a high quality graphical project.
2nd Prize, project FUEGO 55 by Satya Lubatti, Lorenzo Carrara, University of Genoa, Faculty of Architecture, Industrial Design, Naval and Nautical design for proposing "A coherent boat concept with hull, innovative and contemporary design with attention to the external details and finely detailed interiors".
3rd Prize, project MOSE 55 by Kisang Gio, Ied Venice for "the innovative interpretation of a boat concept with a refined design language".

Special mentions were given to the Project SUNARCHITETTURA presented by Massimo di Salvo, Faculty of Architecture Luigi Vanvitelli of the Second University of Naples "For the feasibility and modular system of a small boat with lines inspired by the tradition of fishing boats".
Another special mention went to the Project PAPER BOAT by Alberto Pietrobon, Mattia Mazzucchi and Andrea Valsecchi Sommi Picenardi (Milan Polytechnic, Master in Yacht Design) for
"A romantic interpretation of children's boats with a current concept".

High quality projects were also entered in the Infrastructures category, the theme of which was "Pleasure Ports. Project for the renovation of an existing port. The reference for the competition: the port of Viareggio". The first prize was awarded for the project entitled "Renovation of the tourist port in Viareggio Port by Riccardo Quaglia, Fabio Rapallo, Camilla Galardi and Matteo Fausone from the IED European Institute of Design, Turin premises, with the following motivation:
"For a project that renovates the port of Viareggio without interfering too much with the current production system and interprets an extension to the port taking into account the current geomorphology" (in the attached photograph)
Special mentions were given to:
Project Concept Porto di Viareggio 010 di Marina Colombo e Sebastiano Vida from the University of Genoa, La Spezia pole, specialisation course in Naval and Nautical Design "for the interpretation of a design concept of great impact that would involve a radical transformation of the existing port"
A second special mention went to ECOPORT (Renovation of the port of Viareggio) by Francesca Bordone, Daniela Gorini and Elisa Rossetti from the IED Torino "For an extension layout outside the dam safeguarding the existing area".
